CodeLean’s 4th Certified ScrumMaster Training Well-Received Once Again

Monday, June 28, 2010

Last May 4–5, 2010, CodeLean, Inc. successfully conducted the 4th Certified ScrumMaster training course at the Diamond Hotel in Manila. At the helm of the two-day seminar was Bas Vodde, a Dutch software developer and ScrumAlliance.org coach who works for a Singapore-based company that specializes in training and coaching related to Agile and lean development. It was Vodde’s fourth time to lead the ScrumMaster training in Manila, and compared to the last two years, more people have expressed interest in Scrum in this most recent run. Twenty-six slots were filled, with representatives from local and international organizations such as Chikka Asia, Chikka Philippines, Procter & Gamble Asia, Philippine Bureau of Immigrations, and Vietnamese company Harmony Soft Technologies.

The May 2010 Certified ScrumMaster training participants were a diverse mix of professionals, ranging from newly promoted team leaders, long-time software developers, and IT experts to operations directors, research engineers, and licensed project managers. As reported by the participants, some of them had no working knowledge of Scrum prior to the seminar and they attended to learn more about this particular Agile process and how it could work for their organization. On the other hand, some were actually already in the initial stages of implementing Scrum and had signed up to learn firsthand about best practices and practical applications that could not be learned simply by just reading books and manuals. Also, Vodde required that the participants be randomly grouped for the exercises, providing a well-balanced mix of knowledge levels and professional backgrounds that made the exercises more dynamic. The seminar also provided a venue for networking and dialogue, bridging the gap between the techie and non-techie people during the action-packed two days.

All in all, the participants of the 4th Certified ScrumMaster course agree that the seminar was able to answer basic questions about Scrum while covering most major issues that organizations may encounter should they choose to adopt the new process. They recognized that implementing Scrum can improve the quality of work done and ensuring timely project deliveries, thereby positively affecting an organization’s productivity as a unit.
